Some data resources are related to other data resources. We can define many of these links between data resources we hold in our data catalogue, making it easier for users to find the resources they need.
Our catalogue can support the following types of relationship:
- Member of
- Used where a data collection (parent catalogue record) is required to link multiple data resources related in some way e.g outputs from long-term monitoring projects, data outputs all collected from a field site etc.
- Related
- Used where data resources are related in some way, but a parent record is not considered necessary e.g. only two resources are to be linked, resources are linked in some manner that is not as clearly defined as a project, etc.
- Supersedes
- Used where a resource is replacing an existing resource, either because errors have been discovered in the original resource or the new resource incorporates all of the data from the previous resource plus new data.
- Generates
- Used where a model generates an output data resource
- Uses
- Used where a data resource makes use of another data resource in some way e.g. a model uses input data, a data resource is derived in some way from another resource, etc.
When you deposit your data resource with us, if you would like to establish any of the above types of links to existing resources we hold, or to resources being deposited concurrently, please let us know by completing the 'Related data holdings' section of your Service Agreement.
