Some data resources are related to other data resources. We can define many of these links between data resources we hold in our data catalogue, making it easier for users to find the resources they need.
Our catalogue can support the following types of relationship:
Part of
Used when a collection record is required to link multiple, related data resources (the dataset is said to be Part of the collection). For example, you may wish to group several data outputs from a single project or group several data outputs that were all collected from the same field site.
Replaces
Used where a data resource is replacing (superseding) an existing resource. For example, this might be because errors have been discovered in the original resource or the new version adds additional data.
Related
Used for any other type of relationship (please specify)
This can also be used where data resources are related, but a parent record is not considered necessary. For example. if there are only two resources are to be linked.
When you deposit your data resource with us, if you would like to establish any of the above types of links to existing resources we hold, or to resources being deposited concurrently, please let us know by completing the 'Related data holdings' section of your Service Agreement.
