You don't need to wait until the end of your grant or project to submit your data to the EIDC. In fact, depositing data is best done as soon as the data are ready, and preferably before funding for the project runs out to ensure you have the resource (time and people) available to get the data published.
In order for your deposit to run smoothly, it is best to have your data and supporting documentation ready to submit before completing the deposit request form. Here are some things to consider before contacting us:
Do the data fall within the remit of the EIDC?
This should be documented in your Data Management Plan but if not, please contact us if you are unsure.
Have you registered for an EIDC account?
(we only need your name and email address)
How many datasets do you have for deposit?
Give each dataset a working title. If you are finding it difficult to decide if you have one or many datasets, please see our guidance.
Are the data in a non-proprietary, open format with appropriate filenames which contains no spaces?
Are the data structured/formatted correctly?
For more information on this see our guidance on preparing data
How big are your data?
You will need this information for the deposit request form.
Have you prepared appropriate metadata and supporting documentation to aid in the understanding and reuse of your data?
If your deposit request is successful, we will contact you to complete a Service Agreement. Please review the guidance we have provided and make a note of any information you may need additional support to complete. For example, do you have an appropriate author list for the data, with all required information (e.g. email addresses, ORCiDs etc.)? Do you require an embargo? Do you know who the owner of the IPR is?
Further guidance on these is available here and our data curation staff will be on hand at every step of the process to support you. However, the more prepared your data and documentation are, the smoother and faster the deposit process will be.
